Who Stands in the Gap? You Do

In Scripture, the “gap” is where priests stand, between God and people, as bridges of grace. That’s what Jesus did. On the cross, He stood in the gap for us all, reaching out His arms to span the divide between heaven and earth.

So, who stands in the gap today?

You do.

Hebrews 1:6 says, “Jesus has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father.” As followers of Jesus, we are called to be channels of His grace, to step into places of suffering and need, and bring hope in His name.

Recently, our mission team stood in such a gap in Ethiopia. Over 35,000 South Sudanese refugees had fled brutal attacks in their villages. They arrived in Ethiopia with nothing. Through tears and an interpreter, we told them, “You are not forgotten. In the name of Jesus, the church in America stands with you.”

That week, we distributed more than a ton of food, twice. For six critical weeks, our church was the only major provider of food.

we raised and sent over $42,000.

Because of your generosity, we raised and sent over $42,000. In partnership with the Lutheran Church of South Sudan, food was delivered hand to hand, along with the comfort of the Gospel.

The story didn’t stop there. We took the gap all the way to Washington, D.C. A small team met with Senator Ricketts’s office, urging the U.S. to press Ethiopia to grant official refugee status, essential for unlocking international aid.

Whether this is what caused it or not, the status was lifted within three weeks. God answered prayer. Aid is now arriving.

But this crisis is far from over.

Let’s continue being the conduit of Christ’s grace. Because when God’s people stand in the gap, He moves.
