“Do not love the world, nor the things in the world.
If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
– 1 John

What really makes for a happy life? A dream job, a bigger house, or a new relationship? If you’re always hungry for the next big thing, but frustrated because it never seems to satisfy, you might be Chasing Carrots. Hop off the treadmill and chase after something real. Chasing Carrots is a 3-week series beginning November 14 discussing the things people commonly chase after that only bring fleeting happiness.

Week 1: Comfort

Comfort is something we as American’s desire and chase after. We want the best life, the best house, the best job, and the best vacations… and we want them now. We look for the path of least resistance to attain our goals, but is that God’s plan for us as Christians? Did God call you to comfort or to confession?

Week 2: Perfectionism

Perfectionism is rampant in our culture. Cancel culture demands perfection in the realm of popularism and cultural sensitivity. We demand perfection from our spouse, from our kids, from ourselves.

Week 3: Money and Stuff

We are in a relentless pursuit of more. From garage sales, estate sales, and storage complexes to finances, we have prioritized our monetary gains over our kingdom inheritance. Imagine if we saw money and stuff as something to steward rather than to be mastered.

As we consider the “carrots” we have been chasing in our lives, we have the opportunity to discover ways we can “chase” spiritual connection with God and with others. Would you time be better spent in prayer, devotion and worship? Would your material wealth be better utilized giving back to those in need? Connecting with the Church through Worship and service can bring you closer to God than ever before.
