Key Passage: 1 Corinthians 14:33

“For God is not a God or disorder, but of peace – as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.”

  1. Much of the letter of 1 Corinthians is focused on the building of the church. As this was one of Paul’s first church plants, he needed to be sure it was stable. In what ways are the teachings from 1 Corinthians still applicable today?
  2. What’s at stake if the church isn’t at its best and the people are divided?
  3. Greg made the case on Sunday that the opposite of love is pride. Do you agree or disagree with this assessment? Why?
  4. If Paul were to write a God-inspired letter to the church in Omaha today as he did to the church in Corinth, what do you think it would say?
  5. When you talk with others about that day’s worship and message, do you enter a critical mode? How can we change the framing to, “How did Jesus speak to you today?’ or ‘Where did you meet God today?’”
  6. 1 Corinthians is a reminder that Satan is always on the attack: within the church, within your marriage, without our families. What can you do to become more aware of his presence and avoid his traps?
  7. When we disconnect from the love of our own pursuits, we become better connected to one another and the church as a body. How can you/do you let go of your personal pursuits?
  • Think about how you discuss your church experience with your family and friends. Do your conversations build the church up? If not, what can you do to inspire more unity?
