The Lens of Love

Break the Ice

If you could live full-time in one of the four seasons (winter, spring, summer, fall), which would it be? Why?

Key Passage: 1 Corinthians 5:6-8

“Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough? Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch – as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old bread leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”

Have 2-3 members share takeaways from their GO last week.

  1. Do you struggle with pride in your life? In what situations do you find your pride manifesting?
  2. Paul mentions boasting, pride, or arrogance seven times in 1 Corinthians. Why do you think he felt it was so important to hammer this particular issue home to the church in Corinth?
  3. What’s your interpretation of the “yeast” metaphor in 1 Corinthians 5:6-8?
  4. How do you remind yourself to care for others over yourself?
  5. Read Romans 6:1. Do you ever catch yourself taking the grace of God for granted?
  6. Martin Luther said that, “A Christian is never in a state of completion, but always in a process of becoming.” Do you agree or disagree with this statement, and why?
  7. Read Matthew 7:3. What is a “speck” you commonly see in others’ lives but struggle to see the “log” in your own?
  8. Do you think the church as a whole struggles with pride? Why or why not? And if so, how can we as a church body become humble like Christ?
  • Identify a problematic source of pride in your life and find ways to work on it. Identify two other people who can help hold you accountable.
