The Lens of Love

Break the Ice

What’s the most memorable letter, note, or text message you’ve ever received?

Key Passage: 1 Corinthians 1:10

“I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”

Have 2-3 members share takeaways from their GO last week.

  1. This message of being united was the first thing Paul stressed in his letter to the Corinthians (after a quick note of thanks). Why do you think unity was the first emphasis in his message?
  2. Do you think the church (both as an entire Christian body and at King of Kings) struggles with being unity? Why or why not?
  3. What’s the difference between unity and tolerance? Why is it so important that we understand this subtle difference?
  4. What’s the difference between unity and uniformity in all things?
  5. Are there any minor issues that get in the way of you connecting to Jesus at church? If so, what are they?
  6. What can you do to prioritize being united over being divided?
  7. “Unity means coming around the principles, not necessarily the methods.” Do you agree or disagree with that statement?
  8. If we center everything we do around spreading the gospel of Jesus, is it possible to be divided? Why or why not?
  • What can you do this week to promote unity within the church?
